SPEAKING FROM EXPERIENCE EVALUATION
For speaking from experience me and jnae decided to pair up and work on this brief together. Before our first crit we were going to create a pack that had inspirational quotes on it for the first years to use as posters and they could stick them around there room to make it more homely. We received feedback in our crit that made us change our mind and take our idea down a different route. we were told that the work we had in mind might not be enough for just the two of us so we decided to add some more work to our initial idea to make it be the best it could be.
We decided to create a manifesto blog this would have all of our do's and dont's & our manifesto page also an inspiration page. For the manifesto page we decided to have two designers manifestos and me and jnae wrote our own manifesto.i was really pleased with what i wrote i felt it was good advice for the new first years and things i wrote about would of been really nice to know before i started. I think doing our own manifesto really makes our blog more personal.
We decided to call our blog and pack 'The Key' It featured two posters with our instagram page on and a business card it also had 3 concertina packs with inspirational quotes and some tips. We made a cd of motivational songs to go in the pack as well this would be beneficial for the first years as its music chosen by current graphic design students. The colour theme chosen was green/yellow black white orange and purple all chosen because they are unisex.
I felt like i put a lot of effort in creating the pack my roles were :
creating posters, creating packaging , creating business cards ,creating cd case music & cd,geometric pattern ,concertina flyers ,quotes for the blog , & manifesto. I think working in a pair was okay there was good communication but i think over the easter break there was little time to focus on it with on going briefs at the same time as it was more difficult to meet up. If i was in this position again perhaps i would work by my self as I've realised i prefer going at my own pace , not having to rely on someone else or get relied on for certain aspects of the brief would be easier.
what worked - My favourite part of the brief would be the manifesto blog i just felt it was really personal and helpful, also including a list of design blogs will give the first years a bit of a head start as they can research more websites rather than just pintrest. Its also really easy to access online. We left our email addresses so people could just email us and ask us any questions.
what didn't - I felt splitting the jobs like we did left me with a lot of design work and getting everything ready for print was a lot more stressful than i thought it would be especially printing everything twice. The biggest problem we faced was the packaging we printed them onto A2 card and the stock the used in the print room downstairs scratched really easy and i definitely wouldn't use that stock again. When we put the packaging together it was a little tight and we had a screen printed T-shirt to go inside and i didn't want the packaging to look squeezed together so i made one using card and jnae and i followed a template i felt this was a much more suitable idea and it looked really nice when it was all finished.
This brief was something different as we've never made a pack or a booklet or blog for another year group i think it was nice to reflect on the year and see what we could offer for the new first years. If i was to repeat the brief i would take more time over the packaging and also plan my time a little better so i wasn't rushing. I would also test more stock in the future before just picking one.
